As we arrive toward our third consecutive Golden State Warriors vs Cleveland Cavaliers Finals match up, it leads me to wonder: why should I care? While the NBA is at an all-time high when looking at pure talent, I believe that the league is at a low when looking at the competitiveness and entertainment value. While I could attribute this to being a Knicks fan, I also believe we could look at a few specific points to understand why this is the case.

I’ve never been one for goodbyes. It's not that I can’t handle them, I’m actually just “not good” at them. I never know what words to say, or if I do by a rare chance know what to say, I never know how to say it. Although saying goodbye to The Harbour Voice was something I always knew I would have to do, I just never expected it to actually happen. To me, it's like when you're having a perfect day; you know it will end, but you'd rather live in the now, instead of looking at the end. That's what The Harbour Voice has given me.
By Steven Keehner In an age where the pop music scene is dominated by rap and electronic dance music, it is very difficult for fans of rock to find new, fresh-sounding music. It isn’t unusual to hear fans of the genre complaining that music “isn’t as good as it used to be” or that “rock is dead.” This is where I have an issue. Just because rock isn’t being played on pop stations, that doesn’t mean that the genre itself is on the decline; in fact, I’d be one of the first to argue that it’s actually going through its own little renaissance.
The look and sound of rock as many of us have known it is changing. For example, I believe that we are past the era of bigger-than-life rock star personalities such as Keith Richards, Morrissey, and the Gallagher Brothers; we are instead getting musicians who are much more relatable and down to earth. This can be seen with many of the musicians I’m about to name. Much like bands such as The Smiths and Red Hot Chili Peppers, it isn’t unusual anymore to see bands experimenting by mixing genres to create new and fascinating sounds that I’ve never heard before. And to think that I’ve probably spent the majority of my life listening to music, that’s impressive. So without further ado, here are five bands you should listen to right now. By Steven Keehner Note: this article was written in 2014, but due to how much I love it and how much I still believe in the message of it, I decided to post it anyways.
On December 7th, 2014, the New England Revolution had just lost to the Los Angeles Galaxy 2-1, for the MLS cup. The league’s ratings are at an all-time high, and the man widely credited with popularizing the world’s most popular game in the United States, Landon Donovan, is playing as a professional for the last time. |
