By Steven Keehner David Johnson, Le'Veon Bell, and Julio Jones. What do all three players have in common? They’re all considered the “Go-To” top picks in drafts this season. When thinking of our favorites aspects of Fantasy Football, we look toward the draft. We spend weeks, months even, watching tape, discussing, and evaluating every player. Just so when the draft comes around, we can hope to find that one player, that one diamond in the rough that can lead us to glory.
But as many experienced players know, no fantasy league is won on Draft Day; while having your studs secured is helpful, it’s the moves you make through the Waiver Wire and by trading that can make a Champion. So I was thinking, is it possible for somebody to win a league without drafting any players at all? A few minutes later, I was in a random ESPN league draft lobby and ready to embark on this experiment!

Since the 2016 General Election, Oyster Bay High School has become a divided place, with many disagreements about President Trump and various political issues. Because of this, I’ve avoided discussing these topics for the most part; however, one recent tweet has inspired me to enter this war zone of opinions: “The FAKE NEWS media (failing @nytimes, @NBCNews, @ABC, @CBS, @CNN) is not my enemy, it is the enemy of the American People!” No, this tweet was not from an edgy teenager trying to impress internet strangers. This tweet was from the edgy 45th President of the United States, Donald Trump, trying to impress internet strangers. I could spend an entire article dissecting President Trump's tweets, but that doesn’t serve enough justice to who he really is. You can think whatever you want about Donald Trump. You may believe he is sexist, racist, fascist, or all of the above. These notions can be debated. But one undeniable truth about the President, and, ironically, it’s that he doesn’t tell the truth; Donald Trump is a liar. Whether it’s coming from his mouth or the mouths of his increasingly suspicious looking staff, the majority of statements being made are skewed to help Trump’s fragile ego, or they are outright lies. The media are not the enemy of the American public; I believe Donald Trump is the real threat. Allow me to show you why. Skateboarding, surfing, and incredible music: these are just a few things associated with Los Angeles. But just one year after the city of St. Louis was left without an NFL team, San Diego has also fallen into a nearly identical situation. On January 12th, 2017, the Chargers’ ownership group announced the relocation of the team to Los Angeles. This has given "The City of Angels" their second NFL franchise in as many years. This move has also come as a shock to many NFL fans, myself included. I almost immediately thought: why is a city that has struggled to care about the Rams moving to Los Angeles getting another team? After what has felt like an eternity, the embarrassment that was the 2016 Presidential Election has finally come to a discouraging conclusion with Republican candidate Donald Trump shocking the world and defeating his Democratic opponent, Hillary Clinton. This has left a bittersweet taste in the mouths of many Americans, and after constantly being told to choose between the lesser of two evils, this entire process has given citizens an important message: the duopoly of American politics isn’t working for us anymore. Around this time of the year, I, like thousands of Americans, devote my Sundays to football. Some may think of this habit as borderline unhealthy: sitting on a couch from 1 pm to 7 pm, eyes glued to a TV. Following the end of the daytime games, I noticed that I had time to spare until the "NBC Game of the Week". So, I decided to channel surf until then. If you’re like me and you’re a massive fan of football, then there’s a fairly good chance that you play fantasy football. If you don’t, then what are you waiting for? Fantasy Football adds so much more to the game; it keeps you invested in the sport as a whole while not really requiring any physical effort. However, we are entering a crucial part of the fantasy football season, and you may need some additional tips to help your team secure a playoff spot, and hopefully a title. Nothing is better than having bragging rights over your friends for a whole off-season. Here are my five tips that can help your fantasy team succeed. When we look at previous generations, they’ve all had notable characteristics that have defined them. Whether it was the Baby Boomers with individuality or Generation X with apathy, every generation has something that made it special from the ones prior. But what will we be remembered for? What will we be able to tell future generations about how life is for us now? What mark will we leave for future generations to see? I was chosen to be one of five lucky students along with AP Government teacher Ms. Harnick to represent Oyster Bay High School at the Hofstra Debate Day on September 26th. This was truly a unique experience for all of my classmates and me. From 9 am until nearly midnight, my day was a nonstop roller coaster of events, whether it was watching a panel of journalists discuss the issues regarding the United States today, to appearing on ABC News at 4, or watching the debate in Breslin Hall. After a four year wait, Northern Irish indie-rock sensation Two Door Cinema Club has finally made its long awaited return to music with the band's third album, Gameshow.
Formed in 2007, the band rose to prominence with their debut album, Tourist History (a must listen in my opinion) in 2010, which allowed the band to skyrocket in popularity and led to their winning the Choice Music Prize for Irish Album of the Year in 2010. They followed this up with their second album, Beacon, in 2012. While it didn’t reach the heights of Tourist History, it still reached number one on the Irish Charts and second on the UK Charts. As American Sign Language continues to grow throughout the United States, its presence in Oyster Bay High School is also growing, as seen through the annual ASL breakfast. This event consists of four periods in which all ASL students at OBHS interact with one another by signing. I had the pleasure of interviewing Dr. Sisia about the event and a variety of other ASL topics. |
