By Steven Keehner Before I get into Part Five of Undrafted, I want to take a few moments to address the comments I’ve been receiving in the last few parts: thank you! I love journalism, it’s what I want to dedicate my life to. However, it’s always difficult describing that to people without receiving criticism. But when I see the positive feedback from you all, it makes my day, and it gives me a little more hope in myself, so once again, thank you! Entering my Week Four matchup, I knew a win would be vital. If I want to have any hope of pushing this team to the postseason and beyond, I will need every ounce of luck I can find. With my massive signing in Stefon Diggs, could I recover from my horrific Week Three performance, or would I continue my head first spiral into last place? Unfortunately, my team underperformed once again. Much like last week, a lot of things went wrong for me; most notably losing Chris Carson for what should be the rest of the Fantasy season. I had high expectations with Carson from here on out, to lose him is a killer blow to my already half-dead team. Jamison Crowder and Chris Thompson combining for a mighty two points certainly benefited no one, except my opponent’s team. Aside from Rivers, Diggs, and Graham, it was very much a week of underperformances for the 69er Gang. What’s most stressful to me is seeing myself leaving more points on the bench; I’m not even sure how different my record would be if I made smarter and more effective moves, but it's stressful. I guess that’s just a part of the game I need to continue to improve upon. My opponent didn’t even put up anything crazy; I’m just a victim of unluckiness (which is what I’m calling it to make myself feel better). Before I get into my new signings for this upcoming week, I’d like to acknowledge that the Waiver Claim I had mentioned last week. If you couldn’t notice; Cooper Kupp got dropped for Jeremy Maclin. I feel like Maclin could be a great extra piece in a trade, which I have been trying to do, but it’s so hard to trade with random players! But I digress (as I often find myself doing), here are the new signings for this week! NEW SIGNINGS! Player In/Player Released Andre Ellington/Jacquizz Rodgers John Brown/Chris Carson Eagles D/ST/Ravens D/ST
If Fantasy Football was a game of winning Kicker and D/ST matchups, I’d probably have like two wins, or something like that. With this being the first week of the hell otherwise known as Bye Weeks, much like the rest of you, I’m affected as well, 'losing Jamison Crowder and Chris Thompson for this week. I haven’t been keeping up with injuries this week, so seeing three (!) potential starters listed as Questionable, I’d be lying if I said I was just a little nervous. In all seriousness, I don’t see this week ending up as win; my opponent is 3-1, and it’s evident why by looking at his team. Even a mediocre Odell is better than the majority of my team, and this man still has Winston, Hunt, Gurley, etc. If I win, it’s a miracle, but a loss should not come as a surprise this week (or really any week, to be honest). But with the depressing Week Five preview out of the way, let’s take a look at what happened in the League during Week Four and the current standings! I'm in last place, I’m the only team that hasn’t hit 300 points scored, and I’m on a two-game losing streak. I’d be lying if I said I’m not concerned; I need to win or at the very least I need to score more because what’s currently happening isn’t good enough. I don’t even think the quality of my team is that terrible, I think I keep making the wrong selections every week. I need to do better, If I don’t start winning, I can see this series getting cut short if I’m out of playoff contention. I don’t think I should struggle with the players I have; while I shouldn’t be 4-0, I know I could do better. It’s only Week Five, we aren’t even at the halfway point of this season, so I don’t think I should count myself out yet, but the time to win is now.
In Part Six, we’ll go through our usual run through of what happened, who I signed, etc. Thank you all so much for your support here and on my website PTBSoccer.weebly.com, it means so much and I’m having so much fun writing for you all. Good luck with your games this week and listen to Liam Gallagher’s new album if you have the chance! What is Undrafted? Have you ever wondered if you could win a league, without drafting a single player? No, okay sorry. But seriously, this is an experiment I’m running to see how far this idea could go. Using only Undrafted (roll credits) Free Agents and trades, I’m building up a team in a 10-team, PPR league with random users on ESPN. This is posted every Thursday, right before the TNF games!
