By Steven Keehner Last week on Undrafted, I issued an ultimatum to my team: win and we continue, or this article, will be the last one. We’re struggling at 1-5; my playoff chances are on their last breath. Could we pull off a victory to extend this series until the end of the season? Or will this be the swan song for Undrafted? We lost. It’s almost beautiful in a way that this series began, and ended, with Carson Palmer screwing my team over. I’m not blaming him for getting hurt, but I found it humorous. But even if Palmer put up 30, this game, like most this season, was a lost cause. I should’ve expected Martavis Bryant to not put up great numbers, but I was desperate, so I took a chance. It didn’t pay off. Normally I’d post about the new signings or a matchup preview, but since this will be the final installment, I’d like to give thoughts about this experiment instead. I’ll post a final picture of my roster at the end. · While it is possible to win with an Undrafted team, it definitely relies on luck. · It’s extremely difficult to win a league without trading! I couldn’t find a trade partner at all throughout this experiment; I’m almost certain that If I played with more active players, I could’ve done more. I wanted to trade players like Diggs and Allen at points to get more depth, but it wasn’t possible to ship them off. · Fantasy Football players (myself included) value a name way too much. By the time we realize that someone isn’t living up to their hype, it's usually too late. · r/ff has great fantasy tips sometimes, but more often than not it’s better to rely on your own judgment. · Picking your starters based on matchup is a smarter idea than picking off of name value. I’m sorry that I don’t have a lot to say, but I think most of what I’ve said during this series remains true now. I want to thank all of you so much, it’s been a blast writing these for you all over the last few months! The timing is actually convenient for this to end as my college newspaper is starting back up next Thursday! It’s funny how things work out like that. But the positive comments I’ve received have been nothing short of flattering; I was skeptical of even posting these to r/ff, but you guys have been nothing short of supportive and I can’t thank you all enough! Also, I want to give a big shout out to the mods of r/ff. Every week I post this, it gets taken down by the auto-mod, but the mods are so quick to respond and post this for all of you to read! The confidence I’ve received in my ability as a writer and storyteller has been great, so for the last time (in this paragraph), thank you. I really want to return with another series next season; I’ve had a few thoughts so far:
If you have any other ideas, I’d love to hear them! Oh, and here’s my final roster! If you’ve enjoyed any of my work throughout this series, please check out my portfolio, PTBSK.weebly.com! I recently added my first non-Undrafted work a few days ago, and there should be a lot more coming soon now that I’ll be writing for my college paper! You don’t have to, of course, but it would be appreciated! For the last time, thank you! I’ll still be around r/ff in the comments, but for Undrafted, I wish you all a happy and healthy Fantasy season! Good luck!
